Editorial Reviews:

From the #1 bestselling author, a stunning new novel of secrets, mayhem, and murder.

FBI Special Agent Jackson Crowne is flying his Cessna over the Appalachians, with a very important passenger: renowned psychiatrist Dr. Timothy MacLean; their destination is Washington, D.C. Upon their arrival, the FBI will protect the doctor—and ascertain just who wants him dead.

But they don’t make it.

In San Francisco, married FBI Special Agents Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock take an early morning phone call from their supervisor, Jimmy Maitland. Maitland received a Mayday from Jackson in the mountains near Parlow, Kentucky, and sends Savich and Sherlock to see what’s happened.

Agent Crowne is able to bring his plane down in a narrow valley and haul the unconscious Dr. MacLean from the burning wreckage before it explodes. Their crash is witnessed by Rachael Abbott, a young woman on the run after the mysterious death of her father. When Savich and Sherlock arrive on the scene, they find Jackson and Rachael in the Parlow clinic and Dr. MacLean comatose in the local hospital, prognosis unknown. What they do know frightens them: Dr. MacLean was recently diagnosed with frontal lobe dementia, and in the months prior to the crash his behavior had become erratic and alarmingly uninhibited, his ability to maintain doctor-patient confidentiality badly compromised. With a patient list made up of Washington movers and shakers, MacLean’s role as a keeper of secrets is jeopardized as well. Is there someone out there so desperate that they’d kill the doctor for what he knows? It is up to Jackson, Savich, and Sherlock to find out—no matter the cost.

Summary: Thin plot terrible dialogue
Comment: I always love these stories but found this one to be overly contrived and totally unbelievable. The dialogue was poorly done and the character of Rachel was so self-assured I am not sure why she needed the FBI's help. During the gunfight at Slipper Hollow one character actually "laughed" as
he scooted along the floor to go get his gun...come on now you can do better than this. I did not finish the book.

Comment: This is one of Catherine Coulter's better Savich/Sherlock stories, I was so interested in it, I read it in two sittings, the only reason it took two was because I started too late in the day to finish it in one!!!! I hope she continues to write these stories, I always look forward to them.

Summary: It was...okay
Comment: I've been a fan of Catherine's FBI series for quite some time now. I own every book of the series and have loved them all. However this newest edition to the series is lukewarm at best. I loved the interaction between Sherlock and Savich, as I always do, but the rest of the characters were boring and not developed enough. I couldn't stand the heroine, Rachel, and the most of the new characters. The plot was slow and I was disappointed to know I really didn't care to see how it ended. I did finish it though and it was as dull as I expected it to be. I felt like she stringed everything together too quickly at the end and there was little suspense.

What I love about Catherine's writing is she usually paints a vivid picture in each book of the beautiful scenery and the colorful locals. Such as San Francisco in "Point Blank". But in this book she did a poor job painting the background. Washington DC is a wonderful city and she could have used it a lot more in the story, as well as the small towns in Virginia and Kentucky.

I will continue to buy Catherine's FBI books because I can't get enough of Sherlock and Savich but here's to hoping the plots and characters in the next stories are more developed and entertaining!

Comment: Adequately written - actually, I think FBI series is getting a bit old - suggest Ms Coulter try something else.
