Five-time Mr. Universe, seven-time Mr. Olympia, and Mr. World, Arnold Schwarzenegger is the name in bodybuilding. Here is his classic bestselling autobiography, which explains how the "Austrian Oak" came to the sport of bodybuilding and aspired to be the star he has become. "I still remember that first visit to the bodybuilding gym. I had never seen anyone lifting weights before. Those guys were huge and brutal....The weight lifters shone with sweat; they were powerful looking, Herculean. And there it was before me -- my life, the answer I'd been seeking. It clicked. It was something I suddenly just seemed to reach out and find, as if I'd been crossing a suspended bridge and finally stepped off onto solid ground."Arnold Schwarzenegger Arnold shares his fitness and training secrets -- demonstrating with a comprehensive step-by-step program and dietary hints how to use bodybuilding for better health. His program includes a special four-day regimen of specific exercises to develop individual muscle groups -- each exercise illustrated with photos of Arnold in action. For fans and would-be bodybuilders, this is Arnold in his own words.

Customer Rating: Summary: Mr. Steroid Comment: Somewhere between lines, he missed that one:
"I was big, because I was on steroids".
It's such a pity, that 95% of all athletes of that time (before 1990, when steroids were tagged "controlled substance" and officially equal to narcotics) used steroids. It was their greatest secret of performance. And only chosen few knew that secret.
Now we have that legacy, all of that pictures of {great} bodies, just to understand, that it's not possible to achieve that {excellence} without the drugs (so-called "gear" or "juice").
More than that... average professional bodybuilder spends $50k/year on some modern analogue of the drugs which again only few knows about, which allows them to pass steroid/doping tests. And which aren't forbidden yet (every year more and more new drugs get banned from the use, long after bodybuilders used them to win).
And millions of us look at that all with envy and desire to be like them. And popularity of sports and "healthy" life-styles substantially increases every year.
Oh, year, we are healthy, but can you sell us some kind of {diet} supplies, to be like them? Of course, we will.. especially because it's multi-BILLION industry of us to sell you drugs that never worked and never will THAT effective.
Bodybuilders are big, popular, girls like them, but it's not a secret, that most of them are impotent and don't forget they are paying the price but being testing animals, buying very expensive stuff off black market, most often very questionable quality. And nobody knows side-effects yet.
And yes, I read the book. All of it. And yes, Arnold was my lifetime HERO.
WAS.
Such a ... story.
Customer Rating: Summary: I wish I had read this 20 years ago Comment: I have made more progress with the advice in this book in the last month than my average year. After years of thinking I knew what i was doing at the gym, I finally feel like im on the right track with my body and my health.
Its also refreshing to read (and ironic since this book is 30 years old) people recommending moderate weight/high reps as opposed to the high-intensity school which I feel has its place in your routine, but just was not leading to muscle gain for me.
If you are interested in fitness, getting in shape or body building, I think this is required reading. It has also given me a tremendous amount of respect for Schwarzenegger who seems to have conquered everything in this world except the California legislature.
Customer Rating: Summary: Transformed me and eventually my life Comment: I first read this book back in the summer of '83, as a skinny kid, while in college. I was curious about bodybuilding before buying it, but after reading it this book actually inspired true change in me. I immediately began training using the dusty, dilapidated weight-set that sat down in the dank, beer-stenched fraternity house basement that I lived in during the summer. I then graduated to the university gym, and then to a real Gold's Gym- I was working out with real bodybuilders! It was such a rush to get into the true environment of pro bodybuilding. It took seemingly forever to put on muscle but one day it seemed to magically start to happen. It was like a dream come true. I used to sit at a bus-stop waiting to come home after a monsterous workout. I never remember ever feeling so exhausted in my life while waiting for the bus.
Anyway, I managed to get into beautiful shape and excelled in my studies and eventually reached the pinnacle of my profession...and bodybuilding was one element that helped, without a doubt. This book by Arnold and friends was so inspirational to me and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to transform their body/lives or anyone who wants to peer into the world of the greatest bodybuilder of all time. You won't regret buying this book. If you happen to be reading these reviews, Arnold, thank you for the memories. I will always consider you as being one of the top greats of sports and success stories..
Customer Rating: Summary: fantastic read Comment: Full of information on mental & physical training. Things even I would never have thought about. Recommend it to anyone, well worth the money.
Customer Rating: Summary: Motivation and determination are keys of success Comment: What can we say?
Fantastic book. Great for motivation. After reading this book you will realize that dream really can come true if you put enough effort and passion in them.
