Summary: A must for any husband or family member at the first sign of PPD
Comment: The Postpartum Husband was the best resource ever. My husband read it in 20 minutes and looked at me and apologized and said, "I'm sorry I didn't know about and buy this book earlier" It was the absolute best resource to help him understand what I am going through. I have suggested it to my pediatrician, therapist and anyone else possible. Thank you for a great book.

Summary: Very disappointing
Comment: I got this book in hopes of learning and understanding PPD. Instead I got a book written in bullet points with no real meaningful content. I certainly didn't gain and knowledge or insight that I was looking for.

Summary: A wonderful book
Comment: We looked so forward to the birth of our first child that I never imagined that his birth could turn our world upside down and leave my wife suffering from PPD. Try as I might,I just didn't know where to turn to find some answers and help. A friend recommended that I read this book. I was not holding out much hope, since no one else seemed to be of much help in this area. But it was filled with wonderful insight and information and ways to help my wife get thru this.
Today, my wife is feeling better and we are enjoying our child and being parents. Thank you Karen, for writing this wonderful book. I highly recommend that this book, along with "this isn't what I expected" be on all new parents reading list.

Summary: PPD is serious. This book isn't.
Comment:
This book is written entirely in bullet points and one-page "chapters" consisting of more white space than text. If it were subtitled "Positive Affirmations," rather than "Practical Solutions," I would not object. But I would also not have been misled into buying it.
The author has an informative website that I would endorse, and the content of the book is appropriate in that format. It would make a good give-away pamphlet to families in treatment. As someone who truly is looking for practical solutions, however, I was disappointed that Postpartum Husband does not delve much deeper than, "Be patient and supportive."
And despite the title, the book gives surprisingly minimal attention to what a postpartum husband might do to take care of his own well-being while patiently supporting his emotionally struggling wife and fulfilling all of his other family and work obligations.
The book promises more than it delivers, which is unfortunate because there is a real need for advice directed to the practical-minded husband.

Summary: A Wonderful Book
Comment: I suffered severely from PPD for over a year after the birth of my daughter in June 2003. This book helped my husband help me. It also was a great comfort to me. If you are suffering from PPD, and you are reading this, know you WILL get better...even though it doesn't seem like it. Buy this book and insist that anyone close to you read it...your husband, your Mom your Dr. It truly will help. You are NOT alone.
I also suggest Beyond The Blues. I not only read this wonderful book by Shoshanna Bennett and Pec Indman, but was lucky enough to get therapy from Shoshana. She is a wonderful person and has a deep understaning of PPD and how it effects a family.
