Summary: A Million Little Pieces
Comment: It was only after I'd bought this book that I heard it was apparently not true, so whether or not it is, I read the book as a piece of fiction. And, as such, it really works. Frey's style of writing is at times strange but always works well to express the inner thoughts of the 'character' of James and his construction of his fellow patients adds an extra depth to the story. I also believe one of the most charming parts of the narrative is his romance with Lilly, which I think was one of the main reasons that I kept reading.

Admittedly, I believe that it worked so well as fiction because there were a number of parts of the book which to me appeared too far-fetched to be true, particularly within the last two or three chapters. However, if you're willing to suspend your disbelief whilst reading, you'll find this to be a rather interesting and at times, captivating read.

Summary: If Only
Comment: A girlfriend at the time got this book for me to try and help cut drinking out of my life. From very close to the start I began to find it very unbelievable. James Frey forgot to highlight any of the mental trauma's associated with abstinence, I only remember one place in the book where he felt the need to "occupy" himself. He focused on the physical aspects a lot with graphic imagery of vomitting and general pain. I think many people going through rehab would prefer an infliction of pain if it gave a subsidence to the permanent state of anxious and depressing self analysis. My opinion like many others is that had never encapsulated a rounded review of rehab.

However, saying that a family member of mine went to rehab and it appeared that he experienced little if any mental trauma (or so it would appear).

Summary: Amazing
Comment: This book is amazing, heart wrenching and brutal. I could not put it down. It seems so honest and gives a real insight into what people go t hrough with alcohol and drug issues. It also shows how love can touch us and what a determined human being can achieve...

Summary: Read it
Comment: I read this a few years ago, loved the book and couldn't put it down, it's stayed with me since.
After reading I looked up the book to find similar ones, or other fans and came across the sequal (Which was available at my library too [:) and all the pages about if it's an autobiography or work of fiction. I don't mind either way, I enjoyed the book, and its sequal, and now want a copy for myself to re-read.

Summary: Buy this book
Comment: Ignore all negative reviews, media hype, preoccupations with how 'true' this account is...It is an excellent book, an excellent piece of writing, unique style, an addictive read, it pulls you in, engages - a purchase you shall not regret.

When he entered a residential treatment centre at the age of twenty-three, James Frey had destroyed his body and his mind almost beyond repair. He faced a stark choice: accept that he wasn’t going to see twenty-four or step into the fallout of his smoking wreck of a life and take drastic action. Surrounded by patients as troubled as he, Frey had to fight to find his own way to confront the consequences of the life he had lived so far, and to determine what future, if any, he has. A Million Little Pieces is an uncommon account of a life destroyed and a life reconstructed.
