Comment: From the first page you will be hooked. I read this book in one day!
Absolute amazing incredible read. Highly recommended biography from Heather Gemmen written with incredible passion and honesty.
Heather was viciously raped by a stranger which is described in the book abd is truly shocking. As a christian Heather chooses to keep her baby a decision she doesn't regret and describes her feelings about the pregnancy and the trauma associated with such a decision.
BEST book I have read this year!!

Summary: I couldn't put it down
Comment: I first picked up this book in the local bookshop simply because of the beautiful picture on the cover, mother and child embraced so lovingly. The shop keeper told me at the till, "this is an amazing book." It took me 3 days to finish it, and I've never, ever, been on such an emotional coaster as reading this book. As an African American, I, at first, took offence to how Heather saw black people, she was admittedly prejudiced, and sometimes saw no contradiction of being so and being a Christian. But God pulled her out. Her story gripped me, deep in my heart, not only for what she went through, but for how she assessed it; Victory over racism, hate, depression and doubt. I love Heather and Steve for openning up their lives to share with us with this book. Easily readable, Brutally honest, and outstandingly remarkable.

Comment: A person who does not hide her weakness from the reader. She candidly describes her experiences :despair and the nitty-gritty of the life she has chosen and the counter-cultural decisions she makes.

Summary: startled by Beauty...
Comment: I normally don't read books like this one, I would have filed it in the same category as the champ or Angela's ashes, just another weepy books for the girls. BUT was I wrong. The strength, faith and hope of this wonderful woman just sprang from the pages. When I read a story of victory over extreme adversity like this I know "God is for us, so who could be against us..." wether you are Christian or not this is a book well worth reading.

Summary: Inspirational!
Comment: I bought this book after hearing Heather interviewed on a radio programme. She sounded so friendly, serene and content with her life. If I hadn't heard her before I read the book I might have thought she was 'too good to be true' because in the book she comes over as a unbelievably forgiving and accepting of God's will.
However this really IS a story of hope and positivity and shows that if you have a positive nature and strive to put your trust in God (do what your instincts feel are right and good)then you can overcome anything. Like Heather I truly believe God never gives us anything we aren't equipped to cope with.
A book that I didn't put down until I'd finished it!
