Summary: A brutally honest account of the bulimic underworld
Comment: Have you ever imagined what bulimia is like? A teenage girl thinks she is fat, eats too much, makes herself physically sick a few times, gets treatment and everyone has a happy ending... Well this book will blow away any possible pre-conceptions that you may have regarding this or any other eating disorder. It is a must read for sufferers, friends, families and professionals.
The book deals with 19 personal accounts of daily struggles from people living with bulimia and believe me you will never think of this illness as "glamorous" again. Through reading the book you will get aquainted with words such as binge and purge which seem like new vocabulary at the start but by the end you undestand all to well that for these brave women they are a means of survival. Aside from many descriptions of daily rituals there is also an underlying need for perfectionism and an overwhelming sadness that accompanies these accounts and the feelings behing the actual acts of bulimia.
Whether it be through abusing food, laxatives or exercising these woman are remarkably brave and the accounts written here will touch a nerve with anyone. Having read many biographies I would recommend this to anyone interested in the mental health field. This revolutionary book is like nothing before written on the subject and you find yourself being pulled into each story and relating to each person as varied as they are.

Summary: A refreshingly honest look at Bulimia Nervosa
Comment: A wonderfully brave book that brings together the stories of remarkable yet ordinary people who are living with the eating disorder Bulimia. Unlike other books I have read on the subject it does not attempt to explain the reasons behind the disorder or how to attempt recovery. Instead it is a refreshingly honest and frank glimpse at the everyday realities of living with bulimia. As someone who has overcome bulimia each chapter captured my attention and I could relate to so much of the content. I have nothing but repect for the contributers to the book, it is an incredibly personal subject and something that can be very difficult to talk about. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who suffers from, works with or knows someone who has bulimia.
