Summary: MOTHERS AND POTENTIAL MOTHERS READ THIS BOOK!
Comment: I found this book facinating. Written by a psichotherapist who has obviously had much experience of dealing with "hard case" personnas, it shows most intriguing, almost disturbing, conclusions on the way some mothers and their kin relate and behave. Extreme cases are always good to then extrapolate and detect more subtle traits in normal everyday people, including ourselves! It definately made ME get into an "auto-therapy" mood. Not trained in psychiatry myself, I was engulfed by this book which has minimized the use of technical terms and is within easy reach of non-experts as myself.

Summary: Excellent innovative view of the dark side of motherhod
Comment: This book, first published in 1988, is the first serious clinical research of the enormous psychological conflicts and difficulties confronted by some women when becoming mothers. As opposed to find the expected and stereotyped rewards of motherhood they are faced with inadequacy, later on replaced by irritation, despair, helplesssness and a sense of isolation when unable to provide their babies with their increasing demands. It is then that mothers overreact, experiencing hostility that could even become physically vengeful against those who they love the most: their own babies. Furthermore, in feeling inadequate as mothers, they are unable to confide to anyone those horrid desires feeling they are "freaks". This book provides useful information on how to give a voice and a hearing to these suffering women, their babies and those working in the caring professions. It should be widely read and highly recomended for the fuller understanding of the complexities of women's sexuality in the cliched current splits of sexuality and motherhood.

Comment: ...this book had a profound affect upon my atteitude towards the psychology of motherhood. As a training counselling student, this book is easy to read and the author's comments are easy understood - if not easy to digest.
Thoroughly recommended to those seeking an opinion on motherhood from a counselling/psychotherapy perspective.

Summary: sux!
Comment: This book totally degrades Madonna to nothing. She has tried so hard to gain respect back from the public after her sex phase, and nobody has given her a chance. This book just makes matters worse by calling her a whore when she's trying to raise her beautiful daughter, Lordes. This author needs to grow up and find something better to do with their time than slander people they don't even know.
