Customer Rating: Summary: Very helpful for beginners Comment: For a complete beginner like me who wasn't able to get to any classes this book is very good. It explains all the exercises first to ensure you don't injure yourself by jumping in feet first! My only criticism would be some of the more complex moves of the actual form aren't described as well as they could be, and sometimes the arrows on the diagrams are a little confusing. But a second read of the page usually enlightens you!
Definately a good starting point for someone wanting to get into Tai Chi
Customer Rating: Summary: A beginners guide that is well presented Comment: If you are looking for a beginners book on tai chi then this is the one to buy. A lot of work has gone in to the presentation and the author clearly knows not only the subject but how to teach it and present it in a clear manner. Not a book for experienced practioners, but for the novice.
Customer Rating: Summary: This really is a fine book Comment: Having known nothing before looking at this book, I was instantly impressed with what must have been a lot of hard work - this book is very user friendly with helpful pictures and consice descriptions. The author takes the time to go into some of the meaning and belief behind the system of Tai c'hi. A good one for beginners, this book provides a trouble free and quick approach to the learning and practise of Tai c'hi.
Customer Rating: Summary: The Best Tai Chi Starting Book Comment: The book explains Tai Chi really step by step. It explains philosophy of Tai Chi, warming movements, working with a partner, and 24-Movements. The book explains each movement and what to do. (how to breathe, how to stand, how to relax, etc.)
Customer Rating: Summary: Best introductory book I've seen! Comment: Easy to understand illustrations and clear writing make this a good book for beginners and the curious. It includes (but doesn't emphasize) the spiritual/ somatopsychic aspects, so it's good for those exploring the totality of the art, and for the merely curious looking for a low impact exercise. I think Tai Chi could be a great exercise for those with chronic illness or pain, because it targets the postural muscles (which are often lacking in those with prolonged illness or back injury/ surgery).
