Summary: An amazing solution to the how-to-stop-smoking dilema
Comment: Patricia Walder's approach to smoking cessation is a positive relief to all other stop-smoking tools I have thus far ecountered. She starts with the basics, explaining the origins of addiction, habits and the reasons behind which many people smoke and offering an easy, practical approach to breaking these habits for life.
Unlike other books and tools, this book details how and why addiction occurs, involving the reader throughout its duration by asking them to look at their lives/ habits/ reasons for starting etc.
The final chapters bring together everything discussed in the book, culminating with a 3 week programme involving the use of the subliminal message CD provided with the book. Although I have yet to reach this stage, I have already noticed a number positive changes the greatest of which has been in the way I think about smoking and my desire to stop. Pat reinforces the importance of achievement in quitting, rather than believing it to be a situation whereby you'll be denied what you desire.
Beware though - from what I have read and learned from my experience, for this book and CD to work, you must be committed to stopping. Within the book itself, questions are asked to enable the reader to assess whether they are ready to stop smoking/ whether now is the right time etc, which (like the rest of the exercises in the book) MUST be answered honestly to gain the most you can from the book.
However, for anyone like me, who is desperate to stop smoking but has tried and failed repeatedly and is looking for an alternative solution, this book is amazing! Less than a month ago, I believed that quitting smoking would be a hard and draining undertaking, but since starting this programme I am looking foward to a cigarette free life without a doubt in my mind as to whether or not I can achieve it!
