Summary: a great book
Comment: I read this book a couple of years ago while I was still training to be a midwife and having just finished Penny and Sheryl's next book A Wise Birth I am reminded what an important book this is/was to me and how much of what they write about has stayed with me. It is vivid and moving and a fascinating insight into Penny's journey from being a hospital midwife to working and living with the Amish community

Summary: A must for all trainee midwives & obstetricians
Comment: This book is fantastic. Moving, informative, interesting, funny and honest. In these times of increasing interventions and medicalisation of childbirth, this gives a compelling insight into the innate ability of women to birth their babies. I think it should be on the curriculum for all midwives, obstetricians, doctors and antenatal educators. Not only that but it is a wonderful read for any new or expectant parent.
Although this book was written a number of years ago, the message is even more valid today. Buy it, you won't regret it!

Summary: Wonderful,true stories of homebirth in the Amish community!
Comment: I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It pictures how truly wonderful, natural and peaceful childbirth can be when faith and love are present and fear is absent. If only all women had such a midwife and trusted their own bodies!
