Summary: A good start.
Comment: This is good for beginners. But it doesn't have enough real meat to it. Also, it seems that at times the pauses during the stretches are long enough for someone watching to go through the stretch effectively. It's ok if you don't mind breaking your concentration and pausing the tape. But the whole point of yoga is to let your mind relax and to concentrate on the areas you are working. You can't exactly do this with one finger on the pause button of your VHS remote!

Summary: Excellent Basic Practice -- Good Instruction
Comment: I just started Iyengar yoga and have fallen madly in love with daily practice. As I don't have the money to go to the amout of sessions I'd like with my teacher, this video is just right to help me with at-home instruction, keeping the postures finely tuned. Maxine Tobias's teaching and suggestions are very much in line with my own teacher's, so that makes this tape a dream.
A couple of minor down points: this is a tape better suited for working on alignment and 'perfecting' the postures -- not one to follow along with like a class, because the amount of time spent on each side of the body in each asana is not equally balanced (that is, when she finishes teaching the pose on the right side, she does repeat it on the left, but goes through it more rapidly -- could lead to a lack of balance if not careful).
Also, I think this tape is a repackaged version of an older production, rather than a new product for 2000 (the old hairstyles give that away!) -- not a problem as far as I am concerned, but just a warning for folks who already own the older packaged version.

Comment: This really does encourage the novice to get started. The teaching methods keep the student interested and there are no intrusive background noises

Comment: This is professionally produced, with no distractions to the clear direction. Good photography and the voice-over is well-timed making it easy even for beginners to keep up. After eight weeks of use, I am seeing results and am not bored with it.

Summary: A very simple and effective yoga course
Comment: I bought this video three months ago and I am still using it - almost on a daily basis. It is very simple (no music) and all the positions are thoroughly explained (you don't have to look at the TV screen) and I recommend it for those of you who would like to start yoga although it can be used for all levels.
